How Do Sectional Overhead Doors Work?

Sectional Overhead Doors are made up of multiple panels connected together with hinges and brackets, and is lifted up and over in its tracks by lifting cables. Once fully opened, the sectional door panels lay horizontally within the roof space and supported by its tracks.

To help support the weight and assist the electric motor or user lifting the door, heavy duty springs made specific to the weight of the door are fitted to the shaft of the door which is held up inside the opening by plates and bearings. the ends of the shafts are then fitted with cable drums and the lifting cables, with the lifting cables connected to the bottom bracket on the lowest corners of the doors. When opening, the motor turns the shaft with the help of the balance springs and the cable wraps around the drum until the door is in the fully open position.

Tracks are secured on the opening structure of the building and by vertical supports from the ceiling to keep the sectional door panels in place and running smoothly with the use of rollers which are held in the tracks with the use of adjustable brackets and hinges located on the end of each panel cassette. Spring buffers are placed at the top of the tracks to ensure the lifting cables arw always tensioned when the door is laying horizontally in the open position in the roof space.
